Theologian J. I. Packer once reminded us: A person’s “knowledge” of God may be profound, yet his “understanding” of God may be very shallow.

On our journey of ministry and Bible study, we may consider ourselves familiar with God’s Word, yet we often unconsciously take grace for granted—even going so far as to replace God’s place with the results of our ministry, comfort, and a sense of self-control. It is only when our sense of security crumbles and the things we rely on turn to ashes that we suddenly realize: Do we truly revere and know the Lord who reigns over all?

This was precisely the heartbreaking reality Ezekiel faced when he was called. The people, exiled to a foreign land, prided themselves on their status as God’s chosen people, yet their hearts had long since turned toward idols. Therefore, throughout the entire Book of Ezekiel, God issues more than sixty deafening proclamations: “Then you will know that I am the LORD!” God allowed the temple to be overthrown, not with the ultimate purpose of destruction, but to shatter people’s religious self-righteousness—so that, at the end of their helplessness amidst the ruins, they would submit solely to His supreme sovereignty.

Sowim has officially launched the production of the Chinese-English multimedia discipleship videos and study guides for Ezekiel (Part 1). Combining rigorous scholarship with historical footage, this project guides believers out of spiritual blindness and back to a reverence for the Most Holy One.
