SOWIM is turning 15!
You’re invited to our
Taiwan Thanksgiving Banquet
Since its establishment in 2009, SOWIM has been dedicated to promoting “Returning to the Bible and Implementing Discipleship” worldwide. Each year, we collaborate with Chinese Bible scholars to produce audiovisual materials on a specific book of the Bible, helping churches build disciple-making Bible study communities. Over the past 15 years, we’ve journeyed through the historical books of the Old Testament, including Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 & 2 Samuel, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, and Chronicles, as well as the poetic and wisdom books of Job and Psalms, walking together with many on this discipleship journey of going the extra mile.
This fall, we are excited to announce the release of our 2024 study on 1 & 2 Kings. We invite you not only to share in the latest audiovisual discipleship resources but also to celebrate God’s grace over the past 15 years with SOWIM. We look forward to your prayers as we plan for kingdom work in 2025. We hope you can join us for this special occasion.

The Book of Kings Choices of Glory or Ruin
Do our personal actions lead to specific outcomes? Do the policies and decisions of political leaders affect the lives of people they govern? When we look at the history of the kings of ancient Israel, we see that good kings brought prosperity to the nation. They were respected by foreign nations, and their people enjoyed peace. On the other hand, bad kings suffered personal misfortune, and the people under their rule could not live peacefully in times of chaos.
What makes a good king? What makes a bad king? In today’s world, filled with diverse cultures and worldviews, do we have unchanging, eternal principles to guide us in making the right decisions?
The history in the *Book of Kings* provides us insight, helping us to reflect on the nature of the God we trust and rely on. Additionally, it gives us a channel for introspection as to whether we are banking our hopes on our desires and limited strength, believing we can save ourselves, only to face destruction in the end?
Let’s explore this relevant topic together, as history acts as a mirror to reveal how our life stories are carefully written by God and filled with promises of grace. Let’s read the *Book of Kings* together!
“Observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.” (1 Kings 2:3, NIV)
Hearts on Fire
On the Road to Emmaus
The Bible is not just a grand narrative that happened in the past; it actively illuminates in the present we read and seek understanding.
The 3rd Biblical Discipleship Workshop focuses on four major themes: What is Biblical Discipleship, Why Do We Need Biblical Discipleship, How to Conduct Biblical Discipleship, and Journeying Together on the Path of Biblical Discipleship. Through the real-life experiences of pastoral ministry, speakers will share the challenges and responses to discipleship. The emphasis of discipleship isn’t on the system or materials, but on returning to the reverence and practice of God’s Word, thus, regaining the passion to shepherd the flock.
The end of the workshop is just the beginning of a movement. We invite you to pray for all participants, that the Holy Spirit may continue to work, empowering more of God’s children to grow in His Word and draw near to Him.
How to Use the Psalms
for Discipleship Training?
Is it okay to pour out your complex emotions to God, those feelings you don’t want others to know? Have you ever been filled with sorrow or anger, yet switched modes when praying, because we somehow feel we must always be “gentle and respectful” before God? Or perhaps in those moments, we neither want to nor know how to express ourselves to Him.
The Psalms seem to express every possible stage of life, and yet God remains silent. However, this reveals an unusual aspect of God’s discipleship—His listening. No matter what, God listens. He listens to people speak without filter, saying whatever is on their minds.
Sometimes, the anxiety in discipleship comes from our inability to speak for God or to solve the emotions and problems of those we disciple with our own knowledge and experience. I invite you to help those you are mentoring turn to God, to recognize His constant listening. Let God’s alternating between speaking and listening leave its mark on the life of the one being discipled.
