Peace and greetings to you, dear brothers and sisters in Christ!
In the thick of the coronavirus threat, countries are on alert, bracing themselves for new outbreaks. Despite the 21st century being the most advanced era in human history and development, we are still susceptible to viruses that are a hundred times smaller than bacteria. Confronted with the high infection and mortality rate of COVID-19, we cannot help but admit that life is fragile and we are only human.
David once wrote a psalm on the finite nature of being human: “They are like a breath; their days are like a passing shadow.” (Psalm 144:4) Having experienced God’s authority and power to save in life-and-death situations, David asked in awe, “O Lord, what are human beings that you regard them, or mortals that you think of them?” (Psalm 144:3) As we face the epidemic and the uncertain tomorrow, we find comfort in knowing that God upholds us with his mighty hand during our times of need because of his unfailing love for us.
The book of Esther records a historical incident that happened in March or, more precisely, on the thirteenth and fourteenth day of the month of Adar in the Hebrew calendar. As the Jews faced the impending threat of genocide, God destroyed the enemy’s schemes overnight and saved His entire people. Weeping turned into joy for the Jews as God made them great among the peoples in the Persian Empire. This is why the Jewish people celebrate Purim every year. In SOWIM’s Book of Esther Bible study guide, you can find thorough background and teachings on this historical event, including its spiritual implications for Christians.
In order for more people to know God’s love and protection and to remember God’s salvation of the Jews on Purim, we would like to offer you one set of SOWIM’s Book of Esther Bible Study Set when, during the month of March, you make a donation to SOWIM, purchase any of our products, or support the Muslim 1000 ministry. Each Book of Esther Bible Study Set includes a multi-lesson docudrama (available for digital streaming or download) and a study workbook. It will bless you and your loved ones with a deeper understanding of God’s protection over His children.
From June 7th to June 20th this year, SOWIM will host a two-week gospel camp in Cairo, Egypt. The gospel camp will focus on the Book of Esther, as we build friendship with the Muslim people and share with them the good news of Jesus Christ who gives eternal life to the perishing. I invite you to join this cross-cultural mission opportunity and pray for the salvation of all whom we will meet on this trip (see attached flyer for details).
When Queen Esther faced impending disaster, she said to her uncle Mordecai, “Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will also fast as you do.” (Esther 4:16) Just as God heard Esther’s prayer in the past, He hears our prayers today.
Let us pray for the containment and cessation of the coronavirus epidemic and for God to bless many in the world with his eternal salvation through his son Jesus Christ! In times of trouble, we proclaim, once again, that our protection, our strength, and our hope of eternal life are found in God alone.
